Why Choose a Refund Transfer?
- No Upfront Costs: Avoid paying tax prep fees out-of-pocket.
- Secure and Reliable: Refunds are handled through Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC.
- Timely Refunds: Refunds are typically processed within 21 days after IRS acknowledgment.
- Flexible Disbursement Options: Receive your refund through direct deposit, check, or debit card.
What You Need to Know
- The Refund Transfer is not a loan but a deposit product that requires IRS e-filing.
- Refunds must be processed by the IRS or state authority before fees can be deducted.
- It’s your responsibility to keep track of your refund and inform us of any changes to your disbursement method.
Important Information About Refund Timing
- Faster Refunds with Direct Deposit: Taxpayers can choose the IRS’s direct deposit program, a free option that typically allows refunds to be received in less than 21 days. If you prefer a paper check, refunds may take 3-6 weeks.
- PATH Act Delays: Due to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, refunds for taxpayers claiming Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) will not be released by the IRS until after February 15, 2025. This could cause funding delays of six weeks or more for early filers.
HOW IT WORKS
What is a Refund Transfer?
A Refund Transfer (RT) is a secure, non-loan service powered by Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (sbtpg). With this service, your tax preparation fees are withheld from your tax refund, so you don’t need to pay out-of-pocket. Once all authorized fees are deducted, the remaining balance of your refund is disbursed to you.
Refund Transfer is a basic payment mechanism that allows you to cover tax preparation fees from your refund. The IRS cannot deduct fees directly from refunds; instead, refunds are deposited into a secure, temporary bank account by the Bank, which then deducts authorized fees and disburses the remaining amount to you. A fee is charged for this service.
